This extremely rare “Green” framed example was a special order in this color; as only the Enduro model was offered in green. The MX was a periwinkle shade of blue. Dalesman was the brainchild of Peter Edmondson in Yorkshire, England and imported and distributed by Jeckel Industries of Glens Falls, NY. With input, testing and distribution assistance from none other than Joel Robert, the Dalesman 125-MX showed early promise.
Unfortunately, the 4-speed gear box within the 16.5-hp Puch engine had a huge gap between 1st and 2nd gears, which dealt it a significant disadvantage in the early 70’s 125cc class wars. Peak horsepower is reached at 7500-rpm, bore & stroke 55mm x 52mm, chassis made from Reynolds 531 tubing, wheelbase at 54″, and a dry weight at 170-lbs. What you got for the suggested $750.00 purchase price was a strange mixture of components including an Austrian power plant, Puch 36 spoke rear wheel and English REH front end with 40 spoke wheel. Dalesman even hand chiseled “BRITISH MADE” on the center cases of the engine. Despite the odd details, the fit, finish and feel of the Dalesman were pretty good. Limited availability at the time and fierce competition from other brands make this bike a “must” for any serious motorcycle collector.
